But what powers them? Where do they come from? And how do they evolve?
Sometimes, the answer can be found in the work itself. Behind the bold colours and striking visuals (or in Jesu Moratiel’s case, the bees), stories, messages and sources of inspiration shimmer through – offering an insight into what drives a person to push the boundaries of creativity time and time again.

Àsìkò is a Nigerian conceptual artist who explores his ideas using photography, mixed media and film. The stories told through his images are a reflection of his emotional state and its intersection with culture and identity. They are a love letter to the African story, celebrating the beauty of colour, womanhood and the African way of life. Through creating symbolic representations, Àsìkò looks to question culture, beauty, identity and power, and fight against the barriers of patriarchy.
Themed around 4 fundamental pillars – life (and, as a consequence, death), sex as the original phenomenon of life, the influence of science and technology in contemporary society and social relations – Jesu’s work is multidisciplinary, taking life as either an installation, sculpture, photocollage or 3D animation. Well known for encasing bees (that have died as a result of pesticides and global warming) in resin, his work is often thought-provoking – encouraging the viewer to take a closer look at themselves and the issues around them.
Better known as JDL, Judith de Leeuw’s work can be found on buildings across the globe. A self-proclaimed illustrator, street artist and realistic muralist, Judith is known for shining a light on social issues, using the emotions of others to create large-scale murals that can’t be ignored.
