Gallant

D.C.

Gallant received significant praise earlier this year for his debut album, Ology, thanks to his powerful singing and songwriting talents. But making music didn't always yield success for the 24-year-old out of Columbia, Md. "I was really bad." So terrible in his mind that he wouldn't even perform for his relatives. Times have definitely changed. During his first set at Coachella this year, Seal joined Gallant for a rendition of the 1991 song "Crazy." Billboard called it the best moment of the festival's first weekend. Gallant describes it the same way he describes his entire life right now: "surreal."

Gallant

Venue

Gallant grew up down the road from Merriweather Post Pavilion, an outdoor concert venue so memorable that the band Animal Collective named their critically acclaimed 2009 album after it. The space is part amphitheatre, part lawn, all dropped into the middle of the woods. Gallant once saw Erykah Badu play at Merriweather, and he has since dreamed of headlining a show there someday. "I look at that as the venue," he says.

Gallant

Destination

Gallant is a self-described homebody, but when he does go out at night with his friends from Columbia, he heads to Sushi Sono. The Japanese restaurant not only offers delicious fresh fish, but it also sits right near Lake Kittamaqundi, providing views of the water while you eat or just hang out and have a drink. Sushi Sono is the only sushi spot on the Columbia waterfront, so if you find yourself there, you can't miss it.

Gallant

Dining Out

Sushi is high up on Gallant's list of favorite foods, but he also has a thing for Korean barbecue. The best one he has found around his hometown is Honey Pig. Located in a small shopping center in Ellicott City, which borders Columbia, Honey Pig has meat and vegetarian dishes, so everyone can leave there happy.
