Jubilee

Miami

Jubilee is not a club person. Yes, she spends many nights playing in them, but she prefers somewhere more mellow in her downtime. "I keep it pretty chill," she says. Jubilee moved to New York City in 2003 but was born and raised in South Florida. Like most, she didn't love everything about where she grew up, but she credits the environment for her own eclectic, bass-loving music. "Dance music was always there," she says. "It's kind of the reason that I'm into what I'm into." Jubilee pays tribute to South Florida nights on her debut album, After Hours.

Jubilee

Venue

Jubilee likes stopping into Miami's Sidebar when she is in town, but really, she will go wherever the party Peachfuzz is happening. Peachfuzz, which bills itself as "Your Girl's Favorite Party," is a night dedicated to hip-hop and R&B, and Jubilee has played it a couple of times. The party used to happen at a different location in the city, but it now takes place at Basement Miami. "It's a really great party," Jubilee says. "It's one of my favorites."

Jubilee

Destination

If you are looking for a DJ night, minus the pretension, go to Purdy Lounge. Though it has a bottle service option, the bar is a far more low-key spot than your average club, and it sits right by the beach. "It's kind of like the dive of South Beach," Jubilee says and recommends checking out the space during a Chocolate Sundays party.

Dining Out

Whether you are a Cuban food novice or a lifelong fan of the cuisine, La Carreta will make your mouth water. The establishment began in 1976 and now has locations dotted throughout Miami. Another 1970s staple is Versailles, best for those who prefer to consume their Cuban meals in a palatial setting. Beyond Cuban food, Jubilee loves the Peruvian ceviche at CVI.CHE 105 and the affordable fare at News Cafe, open 24 hours.
