THEY.

Los Angeles

Drew and Dante of THEY. both moved to L.A. separately a few years ago, with Drew establishing himself as a songwriter and Dante honing in on production. Neither, however, felt satisfied creatively until a mutual friend introduced them and the two formed THEY. A Skrillex and Zhu collaboration, "Working For It," put THEY. on the map, though their 2015 EP, Nu Religion, truly showed their potential for experimental rap, rock, and R&B sounds. Now they're expanding their ideas on an EP, and they promise it will be worth the wait.

Venue

When it comes to seeing shows in L.A., Drew and Dante agree that the Roxy is the place to go. Drew recalls watching Bryson Tiller perform there before THEY. went on tour last year and being impressed by how well Tiller was able to connect with the audience from the stage. The Roxy only holds about 500 people, but the members of THEY. believe that if you can wow a crowd in that intimate space, you have lots of potential. "You never know what the people you're watching there are going to turn into," says Dante.

Destination

L.A. is known for having incredible weather, and Dante and Drew like to take full advantage of it by spending time at rooftop bars. "We like to be up high," says Drew. "We're pretty short dudes." The Ace Hotel in downtown L.A. is "where it all goes down," he says. "That's where all the history is made," and Dante adds that the roof of the Standard, also overlooking downtown L.A., is another one to try.

Dining Out

Three words: lobster grilled cheese. That brie-and-cheddar-filled delight, served on white country bread, is found at L.A. Café, located on South Spring Street in downtown L.A. "You've never lived until you tried that," says Drew. Dante is more of a sushi guy, and often goes to Volcano Sushi, but he is also a fan of L.A. Café and swears by the chili.
